Finn focus at the 2011 Finn Gold Cup, Perth
Media summary
After the first day at the Finn Gold Cup in Perth, Australia, Ben Ainslie (GBR) takes an early lead after winning both his heats with ease in the
yellow fleet. There was about an hour delay for the wind to fill in, but the first race started in 11-12 knots. However it soon dropped to 8-9 before
coming back in strongly for the second race, peaking at 16 knots in some great sailing conditions.
In the first race Ainslie led from start to finish, while in the second race in stronger winds he trailed current world champion Ed Wright (GBR),
rounding the top mark in fifth. However the Olympic champion took the lead from Wright on the downwind to build a useful lead into the finish.
In the blue fleet, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist Rafa Trujillo (ESP) led the first race from start to finish while Pieter-Jan Postma (NED), put a
poor race behind him to lead all the way and take the second race. Trujillo rounded off a great day with a third place, to end the day in second
overall behind Ainslie. A second and a fifth for the 2008 Silver medalist Zach Railey (USA) leaves him in third overall.Quelle: finnclass.org

Finn Races 1 and 2: Ben Ainsley (GBR)
blasts to two wins on Day 3 of the ISAF
Worlds
Unstoppable Ben Ainsley (GBR) overcame his traditional slow start to world championships when he won both Yellow Fleet opening races of the Finn class at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships on Monday.Published on 05/12/11
The five-time Finn world champion won from the front in the first race but had to come from fifth place to take the second, and put himself firmly at the top of the fleet.
„The first race was quite close with (Jonas) Hoeg-Christensen (DEN), who finished fourth. We had a great race. I had to push quite hard to lead and then, when in front, conserve energy for the next race.â€
The start did not go to plan for the Briton in the second race.
„I didn’t have a particularly good start but I was good on the downwind reach and was in front at the second mark,†he said.
On why he was so good at downwind sailing, he said: „It has to do with the conditions and technique. After all I have been sailing a lot. You just get into a groove and go with it.â€
Ainsley cannot remember if he had won twice on the opening day of a world championship before, but said he liked the experience.
World No 5 Zach Railey (USA) had a stellar day with a second and a fourth to rank second after a day of light winds for the first race and stronger winds for the late afternoon race as the Fremantle Doctor gathered pace.
World No 1 Edward Wright (GBR) had to be satisfied with eighth and a stirring second to be well in the hunt.
In the Blue Fleet, Spain’s Rafael Trujillo, the world No 11, said he was very happy with his day’s efforts with first and third, stating that he was happier with the way he had to work in the second race.
Trujillo headed Canada’s Christopher Cook and world No 2 Giles Scott (GBR) in the first race while the Netherlands‘ Pieter-John Postma claimed the second race from Thomas Lebreton (FRA) and Trujillo.
