Hello Classic Finnsters
sorry if this is not the right place for this question but hopefully someone can help.
I am building a wooden Finn model (1:10 scale, that's 45cm long) for display only (not for sailing) and I would like it to look very similar to the earlier Finns. I have never seen a wooden Finn and the pictures I have found are most from the cockpit or from the upper side of the hull. I am trying to find out how the keel bands (is the right name?) are attached to the hull. If I am not wrong, old Finns had one keel band from the bow up to the centerboard trunk, then two at the sides of the CB trunk and finally one from the rear part of the CB trunk up to the transom. Is this correct ? Another question is what material was used for these keel bands (alu ?). Does anybody have a picture of a wooden hull where I can see these details ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Best regards
Jorge

Hello Jorge,
i have some pictures of the keel bands from a Raudaschl-Finn (Austria) build in 1970.
The Material was Brass or Alu.
Please send us some pics when you have your model finished.
Best wishes to Argentina

Re: Keel bands on wooden hulls
Danke schön Uwe, this is very helpful information. In fact, your Finn has exactly the same keel bands that my Finn had when I bought it (is a plastic one, built in the late 70's) but I thought they were different in the wooden Finns. Now the hard part is to find out how to build them in scale for my model...
Sure, I'll send pictures of this model. If you like, I have some pictures of other wooden Finn models (complete and half hulls) that I have built before but I don't know how to post them here. Should I send them by email so you can post them ?
By the way, your wooden hull looks great, congratulations. And the name sounds great too....
Best wishes
