Je näher der entlegendste Ort der Welt – Point Nemo – kam, desto dichter rückte man zusammen.
Die gemütliche Geschwaderfahrt geht also weiter. Man ruht sich aus. Gelegentlich verständigt man sich per UKW-Handquetsche und macht das eine oder andere Spässchen.
It likely didn’t feel as isolated as it usually would. All four boats passed the waypoint within a span of 23 minutes and at the head of the fleet, Team Malizia just eked out ahead of Team Holcim PRB to claim bragging rights by a mere 30seconds.
This is not what most race fans expected to see after 23 days and 9,000 miles of racing. It’s not exactly what the sailors were anticipating either.

Day 23 & 24 – Leg 3 – The Ocean Race – Approaching Point Nemo📍
The four IMOCAs are still sailing close together as they approach the most isolated place on the planet: Point Nemo 📍
After more than three weeks of racing, the spread from first to fourth is still just 10 miles on the race tracker leaderboard, but today we are leading the fleet! 💬
„It’s an historic day today,“ said skipper Boris Herrmann. „The battle of Point Nemo!! We can see all the boats here through our windows. They are just a few boat lengths away and we’re all racing towards Point Nemo. It’s amazing to be sailing so close to our friends!“
🌬️The forecast does get quite aggressive for the rest of the week. Westerly winds build to 35 knots and the sea state – especially further south – is predicted to be over 6 meters. 🤯
The ETA at Cape Horn remains Sunday night UTC and at the finish in Itajaí, Brazil on April 1/2. ⏰

Auf SR war bereits von einem Split die Rede, was sich aber schnell als Wunschdenken entpuppte. Viel sicherer ist doch, mit den angeschlagenen Schiifen in der Nähe der anderen Boot zu bleiben. Der virtuelle Neustart der Regatta wird vermutlich erst nach der Passage des Horns erfolgen.
