🇬🇧 Nicolas Lunven had a difficult 24 hours due to numerous problems with his boat. These technical complications have made his navigation particularly trying, but he continues to fight to stay in the race.
01:00 – Vendee New York – Charlie vor Boris und Nico. Wann wird Charlie Dalin Boris angreifen ? Er gilt ja als der bessere Segler und verfügt als Schiffbauingenieur über das bessere Fachwissen als unser Hans Dampf 🙂
15:00 – Hat Boris doch nichts dazugelernt oder sieht er im Gegensatz zu mir und den stärksten Konkurrenten im Norden die besseren Möglichkeiten, wo er jedoch zunächst auf Gegenwind treffen dürfte.

I am tearing my hear out.” Says the usually mild mannered Charlie Dalin one of the fleet’s best weather strategist who is in second place this morning on MACIF Santé et Prévoyance at two miles behind Germany’s Boris Hermmann, the leader who continues to benefit from his most northerly position.
Briton Pip Hare on Medallia, in eighth this morning, summarises, “. The weather is so challenging out here, so odd. I think mother nature is telling mankind ‘you can have all the supercomputers in the world but sometimes you won’t figure me out’, as there has not been any GRIB files which match any of the conditions I have had recently. So it is back to basics, looking at synoptic charts, at satellite imagery, making a rationale – where do I want to go?
“We are still in a trying situation for everyone. A situation that is not in phase with models and weather forecasts. We can see it clearly in the videos, everyone’s faces are stressed and lined. For the majority of competitors, the front remains complicated to reach. They must carry out a series of maneuvers and be constantly trimming and changing things because in the area the wind goes from 5 to 25 knots. There are local storms and sometimes even waterspouts. Nach einer Woche ist erst ein Drittel der Strecke geschafft worden. Wird am Ende vielleicht auch noch der Proviant knapp ?
Die Welt verkehrt!Während Charlie weiterhin im Spitzenpaket auf Platz zwei der Flotte der IMOCA segelt, gab er heute Morgen zu, dass er noch nie so unzuverlässige Wettervorhersagen gesehen habe!Charlie: „Die allgemeine Situation ist, dass es ein Chaos auf dem Atlantik gibt! Bei dem Wetter schneide ich mir ein bisschen die Haare aus, weil es nix passt. Von einer Datei zur anderen ändert sich alles. Systeme sind nicht da, wo sie sein sollen. Wir dachten alle, dass wir auf dem Weg nach New York-Vendée gehen würden, na ja, nenni! Man macht das Gegenteil, die Welt steht auf dem Kopf. „
Nachdem ich mit Nicolas Lunven an Bord ziemlich „gestrickt“ habe, werden die nächsten 24 Stunden intensiv mit Wind bis zu 35 Knoten auf diesem Teil des Ozeans.Feuert ihn massenhaft an, das Rennen ist noch lange nicht vorbei und jede Unterstützung zählt!
18:00 – Boris wird vom Tracker vorn gesehen, aber Charlie befindet sich in der besseren Position. Das ist zumindest meine Meinung als Beobachter. Nico und Co. waren nicht schnell genug und konnten der windreichen Front nicht folgen. Allerdings hatte Nico wieder ein Problem mit seinem Bugsprit. Die Nachzügler scheinen übrigens eher Boris als Charlie, Nico etc. folgen zu wollen.
19:00 – Der Südkurs scheint nach den neuesten Wetterinformationen aussichtslos zu sein. Charlie wird voraussichtlich etwas nach Norden abdrehen und Boris dann mit mehr Höhe und grösserem Speed distanzieren und von Platz 1 verdrängen.
Wann wird Charlie Boris angreifen, schrieb ich um 01:00. Der Angriff läuft bereits, denn Charlie hat einen etwas nördlicheren Kurs eingeschlagen und wird Boris voraussichtlich in der kommenden Nacht von Platz 1 verdrängen.
📞 „Hello guys, cheers from the boat! The unstable conditions are challenging. Now, it’s a bit more settled but very rough. So we deal with that, always the same thing. I’m monitoring Charlie Dalin on the tracker, looking at his speed. We are now on different paths, nothing we can do about it, I’m a little bit split about it. On one hand, I would love to sail next to someone, to have the direct competition which is always nice, but on the other hand, I think we are doing a good show, we make the race interesting with two large options, and I think that the race is still long and lots of things can happen. It’s super unclear what will come out of this.“
